(An autonomous Diploma Course of the Indian Law Society conducted under the aegis of ILSCA)

2025-26

About ILSCA:

The Indian Law Society’s Centre for Arbitration & Mediation (ILSCA) was established on 3rd December 2016 by the Governing Council of the Indian Law Society. As an associated institution of ILS Law College, ILSCA was created to complement and strengthen the academic and practical pursuits of the College in the field of dispute resolution.

ILSCA functions as a neutral, independent, and non-profit institution dedicated to the promotion and administration of arbitration and mediation as effective mechanisms for dispute resolution. It provides a professional and structured platform for conducting impartial arbitration and mediation proceedings in both domestic and international matters, ensuring efficiency, integrity, and procedural fairness.

In addition to case administration, ILSCA conducts a range of training programmes, certificate courses, workshops, and seminars in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). These programmes are designed for students and professionals across disciplines, equipping them with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to excel in arbitration, mediation, and related ADR processes.

About the Diploma:

One of the persistent challenges in the traditional litigation system is delay in the dispensation of justice. Such delays, along with procedural complexities, have emphasized the need for alternative mechanisms collectively known as

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR):

ADR refers to processes for resolving disputes outside the conventional court system. These mechanisms are generally faster, less formal, cost-effective, and non-adversarial in nature.

The most commonly used ADR processes include:

  • Arbitration
  • Mediation
  • Negotiation
  • Judicial Settlement / Lok Adalat

In addition to efficiency, ADR offers several qualitative advantages. It helps parties reduce hostility, regain a sense of control over the process, accept outcomes more willingly, resolve conflicts peacefully, and achieve a greater sense of justice.

Proceedings are typically conducted in private and are more practical and economical than conventional court litigation. ADR has also proven to be one of the most effective mechanisms for resolving commercial disputes, including those of an international nature.

Diploma Structure:

The diploma is designed to equip participants with both theoretical understanding and practical competence in modern dispute resolution practices.

The PG Diploma in ADRM conducted by the Indian Law Society’s Centre for Arbitration & Mediation (ILSCA), is offered in a hybrid learning mode.

  • A significant portion of the programme consists of self-study, where comprehensive study material is provided and participants learn independently.
  • In addition, online interactive sessions are conducted at intervals by experts on various subjects forming part of the curriculum.
  • These sessions supplement conceptual learning with practical insights and professional guidance in ADR processes.
