Announces

ILSCA Online Certificate course on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) : Practice and Procedure

2025-26

Course Coordinator – Ms. Sathya Narayan, Director, ILSCA

The traditional law college syllabus, with its strong emphasis on theoretical foundations, often falls short in preparing students for real-world legal practice. This disconnect creates a significant gap between academic learning and the practical demands of court proceedings.

To address this lacuna, it is essential to integrate short-term, practice-oriented courses at the college level. Indian Law Society’s Centre for Arbitration & Mediation (ILSCA) conducts various training programmes and courses in Alternative Dispute Resolution for students and professionals from all disciplines to train them in ADR skills.

To this effect, ILSCA hereby announces the Online Certificate course in ADR-2025-26. This course is run by the autonomous institution ILSCA – and is not formally recognised by the University of Pune nor UGC.

About ILSCA:

The Indian Law Society’s Centre for Arbitration & Mediation (ILSCA) was established on 3rd December 2016 by the Governing Council of the Indian Law Society. As an associated institution of ILS Law College, ILSCA was created to complement and support the academic and practical pursuits of the College.

ILSCA functions as a neutral, independent, and non-profit institution dedicated to the promotion and administration of arbitration and mediation as effective methods of dispute resolution. It provides a professional platform for conducting impartial arbitration and mediation proceedings in both domestic and international matters.

About the Course:

One of the persistent challenges in the traditional litigation system is the delay in the dispensation of justice. These delays, coupled with procedural complexities, have highlighted the need for alternative mechanisms—collectively known as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

This course is designed to introduce participants to the foundational concepts and practical applications of ADR. It focuses on:

  • A brief overview of Contract Law, forming the legal basis for most disputes,
  • An introduction to Arbitration and Mediation, the two most widely used ADR mechanisms, and
  • The use of Negotiation as an effective tool for dispute resolution.

The course aims to provide participants with practical insights and working knowledge of these ADR techniques, thereby bridging the gap between academic study and real-world legal practice.
